People in the south of the country may have been woken by a booming noise on Tuesday morning as one of the world’s largest aircrafts sailed through the skies.
The Antonov AN12 was leaving Shannon Airport for Kyiv after one of a number of trips to and from the Munster airport.
The huge Soviet aircraft took off shortly after 6am this morning with a flight path over Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wexford before it headed to the Irish Sea.
And many people frequently report the booming sound that comes from one of the world’s most impressive aircrafts.
The noise has been described by some as “horrendous” although depending on wind and other factors, not everyone near the flight path has to endure it.
The Ukranian Atonov-AN12 is a four-engined turboprop transport aircraft used by the Russian military for transporting cargo.
The noisy planes make their way all around the world and often lead to mass confusion as to what the strange noise is they are making.
This is because despite flying at about 25,000 feet, a loud humming noise can still be heard coming from the engines of the plane.
And if you missed it, don’t worry, the plane is expected to make a few more trips to Shannon in the coming days.
