Gordon Elliott enjoyed a successful day out at Down Royal today as he landed a treble of favourites on Day One.
Elliott kicked off the day with comprehensive 1/9 favourite Hollow Games, rode by Davy Russell, in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle.
And the day’s feature WKD Hurdle was taken by Elliott again as Zanahiyr (8/13) got back to winning ways with a dominant display.
The treble was secured when 1/3 favourite The Mediator made no mistake on the last race of the day, sealing a good day’s work for Elliott.
“Jack said he was trying to wind it up the whole way, he actually wasn’t doing a stroke and had his ears pricked,” said Elliott after Zanahiyr’s win in the big race.
“From the second-last to the line he galloped the whole way. We are very happy.
“He’s entered in the Hatton’s Grace (at Fairyhouse), but we’ll have to have a look and see what we think.
“I could see him stepping up in trip at some stage in the season.”
