Halloween night takes a lot of preparation for some as they buy in plenty of sweets to give excited trick or treaters when they call to the door to show off their costumes.
However, one woman was left very disappointed after she had no callers to her house, leaving her with an endless supply of treats.
Taking to Reddit to ask if anyone else had the same experience, the woman said: “I live in a housing estate in Dublin 5, there’s plenty of kids around. But not a single ring of the bell.
“A childish part of me is slightly gutted..
“On the plus side, I’ve now got about two weeks of Haribo to get through”.
The woman was not alone in her feeling of disappointment as others quickly responded, saying they noticed a reduced number of children out collecting treats.
One said: “We had two groups of trick or treaters which is a lot less than usual. But I did notice that way less houses had decorations up or their lights on.
“I kinda feel like the build up to Halloween wasn’t as intense as usual too.”
Another wrote: “Same here. I live in Dublin 7 in a large residential neighbourhood and we had one child knock in.
“We had lights and decorations up and me and himself even dressed up to greet the kids.
“So a bit disappointing. But also conscious that we’re new to the neighbourhood, it was lashing rain and Covid is still a thing. So, maybe next year. :)”
However, some homeowners had the complete opposite experience as they were inundated with trick or treaters.
They said: “Jaysus we had so many, we rang out of a giant bag of treats.
“We had one of the large bag for life bags and filled it up and ran out in an hr.
“Had to run around the shop and get more and then they f***ing stopped. Now I have a big bag full of chocolate bars and crisps.
“No complaints, I drank too much vodka last night and that’s about as much as I can convince myself to eat today. So crisps it is.”
One man even had some trick or treaters call to his door twice.
He said: “Had the same group of kids twice, only twigged cos one was stupid enough to say “We’re back!”, said “That’s not how this works kid” and could hear them being given grief as they walked off “Why’d you tell him we were here earlier!?” lol”
Others asked the woman if she had decorations up as most children won’t approach a house that doesn’t look like they are participating in Halloween trick or treating.
They said: “Estate in Drogheda, we had about half a dozen groups, usual suspects from around here call to the door.
“Absolutely right about no decoration no knock rule, my own kids followed it strictly.
