When you think of roast potatoes, you might not think it possible to get them perfectly crisp and ready without popping them in the oven to, well, roast.
But one woman claims to have found a ‘game-changing’ way to make roasties without using an oven at all – instead utilising her slow cooker to get the job done.
Ria McCullough shared her unique method on social media, where it has since gone viral, reports The Liverpool Echo.
In her post on Facebook, Ria claimed her take on the roast potato recipe was so good that she’ll “never cook them conventionally again”.
So how did she do it?
The home cook started with Navan potatoes, which she parboiled for 10 minutes, before leaving them to steam dry in a colander.
As they cooled, she sprinkled over flour, salt and pepper, onion granules and some sage before shaking the spuds to coat them in the mixture.
Ria then added “a few glugs” of mild olive oil to her slow cooker and turned the temperature up high so the oil would be nice and hot when she put the potatoes in.
She tossed the potatoes in the oil so they were coated, then left them on high to cook for four hours, with a tea towel placed under the lid, turning twice during the time.
Ria’s post on the public Facebook page Slow Cooking UK, received more than 2.7k likes and over 700 comments.
Alongside the method, she shared a photo of the potatoes she had cooked looking golden and crispy.
One person replied: “They are amazing, a little bit of oil. Didn’t realise I could use the SC [slow cooker] for anything other than a casserole.”
Another said: “Never thought of doing roasties in my SC, but they sure do look amazing.”
While a third added: “OMG you’ve just saved my Sunday roasts (until I finally get a new oven that is lol) beauties.”
